Inspiring Kamloops Choral Workshop Intensive!

What an inspiring choral workshop we had under the capable direction of Greg Quan on Saturday, October 29th.  After having had some time to reflect on that day, I am not sure whether to express my appreciation more for the choral techniques I learned with ideas for better breathing and tone quality, conducting cutoffs, having “sparkly eyes” and enthusiastically joining our voices together in the musical selections, OR the life skills of centering, thinking of what brings me joy and focusing on building connections.
Greg’s skill in directing and drawing us together as a cohesive group was greatly appreciated.  At the end of the day, the Kamloops and Cariboo songsters who attended left with an infusion of energy and inspiration.
Tim Dundas, one of the Choral Intensive! participants, wrote this note on the Kamloops Happy Choristers’ Facebook page:
Many of us attended the choral workshop hosted by the Kamloops Choristers last Saturday at the Kamloops United Church. The clinician, Greg Quan, who teaches at Magee School in Vancouver, presented many new insights and tips for enhancing not only music appreciation and vocal performance but also the spiritual and psychological experience from singing together. The almost full house was highly appreciative of the whole experience which included delightful refreshments prepared by our hosts. The sound of the group was amazing when we went through the four pieces, the most memorable of which for me was the Benjamin Britten piece "This Little Babe" from his Ceremony of Carols. A hearty "well-done" and thanks to all involved in putting on this event.
